Foster Parent resources
FosterClass is an accelerated course for prospective foster parents compiled by Skookum Kids. Once you complete this roughly 24 hour training, you will receive a certificate issued by us. FosterClass allows you to move through the course at your own pace. Our team is here to help and support along the way! Check it out below.
Skookum Mentors
Skookum Mentors is a program where children in foster care are paired with a safe adult for one-on-one mentoring. Mentors are trained and background checked case aides who are equipped to provide social, academic, and recreational support for your child and your family.
If you're interested in having your child mentored, complete this mentor request form. Mentorship is completely free to all foster parents (not just Skookum-licensed), and does not require a social worker referral.
Foster Parent Support
Foster parents do amazing work, but they are human and need breaks, too. We license respite foster parents who can care for kids for a couple of nights or a week to give their full-time foster parents a break.
Family Night Out: We host Family Night Out once a month, which gives foster and reunified parents a break for the evening while we watch the kiddos.
Foster Parent Support Group: Skookum also hosts a support group every other month for Skookum foster families, with dinner and childcare provided. This group allows foster parents to connect and get some training hours in!
Contact your Skookum case manager to sign up.
Family Support: Need some extra help? We’re here for you. Please fill out the Family Support Form to submit your request for Foster Family Support through Skookum Kids. Your request will be reviewed and you'll be connected with a case aide or volunteer mentor based on your family's needs and schedule.
